I am wildly excited to find this, as my Greatgreat grandfather was Joseph Spiers (the one who married Maria Tisdale). The Dandos were cousins and my grandmother could recall meeting some of them when she was little.
i am trying to research more about Joseph as he was a civil engineer with the Stephensons, who are my heroes, engineeringwise.

Well! where do i start, i stumbled upon your website looking for the history of Dursley, my fifteen year old daughter and I have sat here and enjoyed it very much. Though on looking through some of the names we found two surnames directley involved in our family. Firstly my name is Cowle however its thought that the "s" was dropped about 70 years or more ago as some of our family are still cowles, Some of my father's uncle's and cousin's are. Also we have come accross the vaughan name and that is my mothers maiden name, but she is from Kent and i dont think any of that side are from around here but i'm going to do some snooping around because you've got me wondering now.
