The Mouth of the River Struma in Greece during WW1 |
The Lower Struma - Enemy Front Line Positions
This series of photographs is believed to have been taken by Observer Sub-Lieutenant Cyril Norman Ellen on 29th September 1917.
After many years of being stored rolled up, the panorama would not lie flat. Therefore, scans were taken in sections and digitally stitched together later. The original photographs are actually straighter than my scanned image.
Note: the National Archives holds a panoramic sketch depicting virtually this same view of the enemy positions at Neohori from the same time period. Reference: WO 153/1345/17
